I'm sure many of the people on these forums have seen the kinds of games that can be found in the East and Southeast Asian markets, specifically the wealth of MMOs that are South Korea only, maybe a few of which we've seen brought over here. With a look at some of them, you'll see what's readily evident.
Western and Eastern gaming markets are very different, and the gamers in each of these regions want different things.
I would argue that CCP Shanghai is far from incompetent, but rather that they are designing based on a mismatch of what they've done before on projects for other companies within their region, and what they've been instructed to do to create a game for Western markets. I believe that many of the issues we've seen so far - much as I hate to agree with all the threadnaughts - actually are based in CCP Shanghai not having a full grasp of how to develop an FPS for Western markets.
However, rather than hop on the doom-wagon, I would say all they need is more advisement on what works for Western shooters, and what paths to take in their development.
If Dust was a completely unplayable, terrible game, none of us would be here. Whatever you have to say about the current state of the game, they've made it this far.
Now I think the time has come for CCP Reykjavik to step in and give them a helping hand for the benefit of both us and themselves. |

The major problems I have are with the basic coding of this game. It runs like garbage. This isn't something any of us can advise them on unless we happen to be programmers ourselves. Hence my suggestion that some other members of the company come over to help. |

It takes time to fix bugs. It's not like you can tell exactly what's causing the bug even though you know that it's there. I can personally attest to that one.
Firing people or even switching teams never helps anything. I mean, look at what an incoherent mess Duke Nukem Forever was after thirteen years and four development studios.
That's not a solution.
For anyone that wasn't here during the first phases of the Closed Beta, you had to lead your targets not because of game mechanics, but because of lag with the server-side hit detection.
Then CCP Shanghai developed an algorithm that calculates connection latency into the game's hit detection that fixed all those issues pretty much overnight. If it weren't for that system, you would still need to lead targets by up to a foot or more to be able to land hits even with what would normally be considered low latency.
Before you outright condemn them, you need to take achievements like that into consideration. |

It is called additional content. Same planet? Look at the planet itself where it is on the star map. Even public matches are not on the same map. I was talking about the scenery no forest planets no ice plantets lava planets swamp planets green grass planets and so forth and so on. And EVE came out ten years ago on PC where the standards for games were and still are lower than they are for consoles. case in point see what happened to medal of honor warfighter and aliens colonial marines we console owners don't accept crap like PC owners will Uh, wow, did you think about that before you posted it?
Console players representing the highest level of standards? Must say I've never heard that one before. |

The problem is the game is very buggy and has a lack of options it is basically worst than battlefield or call of duty in terms of gameplay variety. CCP you should reskin section 8 prejudice and make it dust there are a couple of things you would have to make in order for it to work but right now that is a better game and it came out 2 years ago. For everyone who said section 8 was crap Section 8 prejudice supposedly fixed alot of the issues that were wrong with the original (I never played the Original Section 8). in comparison to Dust it is a little easier to play. Dust 514 has better graphics, and dropsuit customization which leads to better survivabilty howver section 8 prejudice has better guns and more customization to the guns. The DCM or Dynamic combat missions make it feel like it you are doing something different every single battle not to mention without any dlc there are 3 different planets that affect your dropsuit differentIy (currently on dust we are fighting on the same planet over and over). I personally would love to see CCP flatout hire the developers for Section 8 Prejudice or reskin Section 8 Prejudice to fit in the dust lore. Since I downloaded and played this game for the last 4 days I been sitting here playing it like why couldn't dust be more li,ke this. Even with its outdated graphics. I will admit CCP could learn a thing or two from these guys. If dropping out of a high orbit MCC looked as good in DUST as it does in this trailer I'd die on purpose to keep doing it, I also think the drop method is a lot better, it seems to drop the object safely onto any ground type. Guns too looked and sounded nice, scopes and all of that jazz and well as a teaser of what MTAC's might be like. Section 8 looks good, and I think you summed up the general differences, Dust looks better, and has some more customisation but section 8 seems to have better gameplay features. I would say that one common misconception stated here many times over the Beta and beyond is that Section 8 featured "orbital dropping". You were deployed from a dropship 15k feet up, which is hardly a significant distance.
That's not to say that dropping into the maps wasn't fun, but I don't think that fits the style of game we have here.
I'd much rather see more focus put into developing the MCCs into the full 300-meter airborne carriers that were originally talked about at FanFest 2009 and in the DevBlog they released on them last year.
The only thing that could be better than that is being able to board them once their shields go down. BF2142, anyone? |

Aoena Rays wrote:Also half of the Reykjavik office is also working on DUST (your precious socks four is in Iceland for example). You are just coming out like racist guy here calling CCP Shanghai unable to make game for western market while consoles are not popular at all in Asia in the first place (in China consoles are banned by law) :D So yeah, all the devs are from US/EU. Uh, since when is discussing the dynamics of trying to design a game for a new demographic that you may not have prior experience with racist?
Differences of interest between cultural demographics are a reality, and trying to dance around them in a misguided attempt at being "politically correct" just seems ignorant.
EDIT: I should also point out in response to your other statement that you can see from the Twitter posts they've made that they design the games on PCs running an emulation of the PS3 hardware environment, which is not uncommon.
In fact, you can do not only all your design, but also your testing via this method. The only issue we seem to be running into is that the client handles the emulator better than the real thing. |
